OTHER BOATS

OTHER BOATS

In this metaphor, other boats on the sea are the people who surround you - family, work teams, social networks.

Others can influence us in many ways that are beneficial and enabling as well as limiting and negative.

As you steer your chosen course, when other boats are around, you may be influenced to turn the steering wheel and adjust your route.

Other boats could be support for you by bringing news of impending difficulties, sharing resource etc, while others may impede your sails from the wind, or provoke self-doubt or fear about your chosen route or your capacity.

It is important to stay true to your own values and direction rather than letting others determine your course.

But it is also true that other boats can provide support when things get difficult and stormy. They can help you stay on course and remind you what is most important  on your journey - your core values.

Other boats are inevitable and uncontrollable.

Use the worksheet in the link below to identify the other boats in your ocean. Have some fun with this exercise - you may get a surprise or two.
